CALLING ALL MEN: An Introduction to Nia!
Date: Saturday, June 7th, 2008
Location: The Synergy Studio
Cost: $15.00 Instructors: Adelle Brewer and Jan Jarboe Russell
Contact: Adelle Brewer for more information, 210.872.0751
This workshop is designed to introduce men into the basics of Nia, a body-mind fitness program that focuses on three arts: Martial Arts, Dance Arts, and Healing Arts. This particular workshop will focus on the three forms of martial arts that we express In Nia -- Tai Chi, a relaxed experience of alignment of body weights by moving mindfully, Tae Kwon Do, the explosive dance of precision using strikes, punches, and kicks, and Aikido, the physical awareness of neither fight nor flight but blending.
The practice of martial arts gives us the opportunity to sense what the body naturally knows how to do, but faster and with greater awareness, mindful control and precision.
This class is designed for men who have never taken a Nia class, who have no prior training in the martial arts, but who want an experience of feeling powerful, balanced and grounded.
"A warrior must learn to make every act count, since he is going to be here in this world for only a short while, in fact, too short for witnessing all the marvels of it." From the Teachings of Don Juan

Movement is born in stillness. Words are born in silence. Join us for an exploration of the voices of the body as a means to express and experience your own authentic, embodied voice. In every Nia class, we use sound as a means of engaging the core, of letting the bones speak, of intensifying the five sensations -- strength, stability, agility, flexibility and mobility - and of transformation. This workshop is designed to help students find their individual voice and to blend with the voices of the community.
